(More customer reviews)I purchased this projector after reading a favorable review in a computer magazine. When I tried it out, I failed to properly plug in the power cord all the way. Unfortunately it came out when I moved the projector to adjust the picture. It took only a few seconds to figure out what had happened and to plug it back in, but the device did not survive losing power. The internals get so hot that components go up in smoke without the fan properly cooling down the lamp.
Amazon quickly sent a replacement unit. I called Acer support the next day to get an opinion on this issue. The question that I asked was:
"What is the expected result when there is a power outage while watching a movie". I spent 2 hours on the line with India, without getting an answer. The people I spoke with recited the manual, which I had already studied.
The same magazine that originally recommended this projector published a note a couple of issues later that describe support issues at Acer. The projector requires a firmware update because the original firmware does not remember configuration settings. This can only be done at the factory, but customers reported that their projectors came back without any update done.
I like the projector, it is bright and crisp and quiet. I cannot comment on the 3D capabilities - I did not purchase it with the intent to watch 3d content right away, but I wanted to have the option in the future.
